The Surplus was comissioned by Young Vic Taking Part and performed by a cast of 60 young people at the Young Vic in March 2015. Exploring technology, myth and resistance, it was directed by Jonathan O'Boyle and designed by Cecilia Carey and featured music by Max Perryment.
Based on the Grimm's fairytale The Boy Who Went Forth To Learn To Shudder, Skin of the Teeth is a lyrical exploration of fear and belonging.
Nicholas wants to feel fear. People can tell that something is missing in him. After a violent accident he accepts the help of charming stranger, Mr Bacon, who takes him under his wing, out of his small seaside town and into an enchanting and perilous world.
